31451C.W A rare and unusual early English silvered dial clock. The mahogany case has a nicely shaped mahogany bezel rather than the more normal brass bezel. The square back box has an opening door at the side and the bottom to enable the pendulum to be regulated. The 13" silvered dial with Arabic outer numerals and Roman inner numerals is signed in flowing script for the maker, Robert Wood, London. The engraving for London having a number of artistic flourishes. The bezel has a built in lock. |

The eight day gut fusee verge escapement movement has tapered plates and four nicely knopped pillars. There is a pendulum hold fast on the backplate. The saltbox back to the case is of oak.
There are two Robert Woods noted as working in London from about 1785 to 1811. One was noted as working in Borough.
