DRANE & CO.
AN EIGHT DAY VICTORIAN SKELETON CLOCK WITH HALF SECONDS BEATING DEADBEAT ESCAPEMENT. CIRCA 1850.

A most unusual skeleton clock or skeleton table regulator. The nicely shaped frame is exceptionally thick and has five pillars fixed by blued steel screws. The eight day movement has a chain fusee with a 60 tooth deadbeat escape wheel which enables the clock, when coupled with its half seconds beating pendulum, to have a true seconds dial.

The pendulum is slightly unusual having a flat brass rod which runs through a cylindrical brass bob with a large rating nut. There is a pendulum hold fast screw on the backplate.

The dial itself is again rather unusual. It takes the form of a silvered chapter ring with two further bisecting rings, one for the seconds hand and the other used as a signature plaque.

It is signed ‘Drane & Co, 43 Ludgate Hill’ and is similarly signed on a brass plaque fixed to the rosewood base. This base is nicely inlaid with boxwood flowers and boxwood edge stringing. The whole clock is covered by a glass dome.

Height, excluding glass dome: 16.5" (42 cms.)
