31585C.BR VULLIAMY, LONDON. NO. 1755 THIS MAHOGANY BRACKET CLOCK, OF THE VERY FINEST QUALITY AND TYPICAL OF THE MAKER, WOULD HAVE BEEN MADE BY BENJAMIN LEWIS VULLIAMY, CIRCA 1845. An elegant mahogany bracket clock with well figured veneers of a fine rich colour. The case has a shallow architectural top, glazed sides, canted and brass inlaid front corners and a panel bordered by a delicate raised mould below the dial. The clock rests on adjustable ball feet. The very substantial and beautifully executed five pillar movement, which is signed and numbered on the backplate, is held in place by brackets positioned between the plates which are fixed to the seatboard by heavy knurled bolts, an indication of the attention to detail and high standards to which the movement is made. The clock strikes the hours on a bell and strike/silent regulation is provided by a switch concealed beneath the bezel. The pendulum, typical of Vulliamy, with a steel rod and very heavy brass sheathed lead bob is provided with roller suspension and a clamp for transport. The 6" circular engraved and silvered dial has Roman numerals and moon hands. It is surrounded by a front opening brass bezel with silvered sight ring. The clock comes with a conforming purpose made mahogany wall bracket. Height: 15.7" (40 cms.) Sold |
