A BEAUTIFULLY FIGURED GEORGIAN MAHOGANY WALL REGULATOR WITH FINE SIX PILLAR MOVEMENT. CIRCA 1795.

Very few wall regulators were made in England in the 18th or even early 19th centuries and this is a particularly good example. The case has a flat top with a concave mould to either side and fluted quarter columns let into the front corners of the hood. The aperture for the dial is basically square with concave corners, those at the top matching the outside curvature of the case whilst the bottom two are decorated with roundels. There are blind frets to either side of the hood.

The beautifully figured trunk door has a mould to its’ outside edge and the front corners of the case to either side are canted and fluted. The base of the case curves in to the wall and is provided with an inspection hatch to give access to the pendulum for regulation.

The very substantial six pillar movement has a dead beat escapement and maintaining power with the pallets being protected by stop pins on the backplate. There is a wood rod pendulum with heavy 6" brass faced lead bob.

The 12" painted dial, still in very good order and with its’ original ground, is square in shape with concave cut-outs to the four corners. It is of typical regulator layout with a centre sweep minute hand and subsidiary dials for the seconds and hours.

Length : 4' 5" ( 1.35 M.)

Price band: C
