ALABONE, NEWPORT, I.O.W. A SMALL AND VERY FINE QUALITY ROSEWOOD VENEERED BRACKET CLOCK WITH RECESSED TOP HANDLE. CIRCA 1850.

This most attractive little clock has a fluted brass champher top into which the carrying handle descends. There is elaborate cast foliate fretwork to either side, brickwork to the front corners, brass floral spandrels to the top front of the case and further decoration below the dial featuring a lion and other animals. There is an engraved and silvered brass dial, with Roman numerals and spade hands, some 4.5" in diameter which is surrounded by a brass front opening bezel.

The substantial two train chain fuzee movement strikes the hours on a bell. The pendulum, with regulating nut above the bob, is provided with a travelling clamp.
