28089C.L. The fine quality movement has substantial plates 8.75" X 7" and five heavy and well turned pillars. The barrels some 3.25" in diameter have twelve turns. Dead beat escapement is employed and the wood rod pendulum with large brass faced lead bob, is suspended from a brass bar spanning both plates and extending to the rear. The clock is driven by fine massive brass cased weights. The engraved and silvered brass dial has strike/silent regulation in the arch with floral engraving to either side draping down into the top corners. The bottom corners are also decorated. There are subsidiary dials for seconds and date. The case, of best London quality, is considerably more substantial than is usually encountered, to carry the very heavy weights and movement and, indeed, the support for the seatboard has been strengthened to assist in this. The break arch hood is surmounted by three ball and spire finials, the sides are glazed and the front columns fluted and brass strung. There are also brass capped, fluted and brass strung quarter columns to either side of the trunk. This has a break arch top and a raised mould to the border. The base has a raised panel and rests on a double plinth. Height with/without finials 7'11"/ 7' 6.5" (241/ 230 cms) |
