31004C.C All the castings on this gilded clock are beautifully executed. The elaborate handle has fine side supports formed by cornucopias of flowers. To the top of both the front and back of the case are a pair of amorini supporting a shield and there are further amorini to the four corners of the case. The dial, set on a deep blue background, has Roman numerals and gilt hands with a ring of flowers inside them and the dial centre is decorated with blue and gold with the makers’ signature, Leroy & Fils, Palais Royal, 13 & 15 Paris. Regent Street 296, London. The alarm disc below the main dial has Arabic numerals and is flanked by gilt decoration. At the bottom of the front, sides and back of the case are porcelain panels with floral decoration surrounded by gilding. |

Both side panels depict a courting couple in a pastoral scene with classical ruins and urns behind them. Above these panels on either side are further small panels, one featuring a tambourine and the other a quiver of arrows.
As well as Leroy’s number 2748 on the backplate, it also bears the number 6646, which is probably Henry Lamaille’s number, as his initials appear on the frontplate. He would either have supplied the roulant blanc or the finished movement.
