A FRENCH FOUR GLASS MANTEL CLOCK OF YEAR DURATION. CIRCA 1870.

This very substantial clock has a gilded and moulded brass framed case, much in the "gorge" style, with bevelled glasses.

The movement, which virtually fills the width of the case, has heavy plates a little over 6" in diameter, and two large going barrels, both driving onto a common arbor and thus providing maintaining power. External clickwork is employed and the backplate is numbered 5288. The jewelled Brocot escapement is mounted between the plates and has a small escape wheel, as would be expected with a long duration clock. There is a two jar mercury compensated pendulum.
