31286C.BR A small and attractive striking travelling clock. The dark mahogany case with a gadrooned top and elaborate handle, feet and corner embellishments in gilded brass. The silvered brass dial, signed for the maker "Frodsham, Gracechurch Street, London" , with seconds dial below 12 o’clock and with gilded brass spade hands. The lockable front door with silvered sight ring. The high quality four pillar chain fusee movement strikes the hours on a gong and is signed for the makers on the backplate. The large platform lever escapement is visible through the top glass of the case and has compensation weights to the rim. The plates of the clock are shouldered and shaped at the top and shaped at the bottom. The movement is mounted in the case via an elaborate brass mounting bracket. Richard Good in "Victorian Clocks" recorded that 1854 is the only year that the name "Frodsham" was used and not associated with initials, christian names or other partners. An almost identical clock is illustrated in Derek Roberts "Carriage & Other Travelling Clocks" on page 285.
