ARCHIBALD HASWELL, LONDON.
A SMALL FINELY FIGURED & RICHLY COLOURED MAHOGANY LONGCASE REGULATOR. CIRCA 1845.

A small finely figured and richly coloured mahogany longcase regulator. The case, with a round top with applied mouldings below the dial, has an opening cast brass bezel and slides off the main body of the case. The trunk with chamfered sides has a glazed front door within a beaded surround. The base of the clock stands on a wide plinth with a recessed panel to the front. The panel and its surround have nicely matched flame mahogany veneers and the base has flat square pad feet to the front corners.

The substantial six pillar movement has nicely shaped pillars which are screwed through the backplate and pinned through the front plate. The movement has end stops throughout the train. The wheelwork of six crossings is well executed. It has maintaining power and Graham’s deadbeat escapement. The mercury compensated pendulum with a round section rod has a glass mercury filled jar with rating nut above the top of the jar. There is a blued steel pointer which runs against a well shaped silvered and engraved beat plaque mounted on a mahogany block fixed to the backboard. The brass cased weight is offset to the right of the case and falls through a shaped hole into the base.
