31392C.L An elegant walnut longcase clock. The caddy top with curved wooden sound frets to the front and quartered sound frets above has strong mouldings to the arched door and above it with plain columns to the side. The full length opening front door has nicely figured wood with feathered crossbanding and again a strong moulding to the edge. The base, which has been partly replaced, has a feather crossbanded panelled centre and stands on a skirted plinth. The 12" arched brass dial has a strike/silent dial in the arch with gilded spandrels to the sides. There are further gilded spandrels to the sides of the main dial which has a silvered chapter ring with lozenge half quarter marks and fleur de lys half hour marks. It has Roman numerals with Arabic repeat numerals on the outside. The well matted dial centre has a raised silvered seconds ring below 12 o'clock and a date cutout above 6 o'clock. There is a polished signature plaque signed for the maker 'Isaac Du Hamel, London' above the date aperture. The fine quality five pillar movement has nicely knopped pillars and an anchor escapement and rack striking on a bell. The clock has two brass cased weights and a steel rod pendulum. Isaac Du Hamel is noted as working in London between 1731 and 1755 and there is a watch by him in the Guildhall Museum and a longcase clock by him in the Royal Collection in Buckingham Palace.
