An unusual and early small Laterndluhr. The case has a round top, which does not lift off, with an opening glazed front door. It is surmounted by a gilded carved eagle. It proceeds down through a concave moulding to the trunk which has a lift out front door with a glazed round topped aperture. The pendulum box is unusually shaped with curved outer edges and again has a lift out glazed front door. Both the trunk and the base have slim glazed side windows. Beautiful walnut veneer is used throughout and the lift out doors are strung with boxwood to their edges.

The small enamel dial is enclosed within a very thin gilded cast bezel and has slender black Roman numerals. It has delicate blued steel hands.

The eight day timepiece movement has a deadbeat escapement and a steel rod pendulum which runs against a beat plaque in the base.

This is a most unusually shaped Laterndluhr and is very similar to the early style Laterndluhrs from 1800 to 1810 which had round tops and octagonal bases.

Length: 35″ (89 cm.)
