AN EXTREMELY ATTRACTIVE AND SMALL ROSEWOOD CASED STRIKING BRACKET CLOCK WITH ITS ORIGINAL BRACKET. CIRCA 1845.

A very small rosewood and brass inlaid bracket clock. The case, with a canted cornered roof, has an acorn finial to the top. The front of the case is of finely figured rosewood with brass inlay around the dial and between the dial and the feet. The sides have silk backed fishscale frets and there is a glass rear door. The whole clock stands on wooden bun feet and stands on its original rosewood and brass inlaid bracket. The 4" silvered dial is signed for the maker ‘C. J. Case, 54 Bishopsgate Street, London.’ It has finely pierced heart shaped blued steel hands.

The eight day twin gut fusee movement has four substantial pillars and nicely pierced wheel work. It has rack striking and strikes the hours on a bell mounted on the backplate. The backplate is also signed for the maker ‘C. J. Case, 54 Bishopsgate Street, London.’ The clock has a nicely shaped steel rod pendulum and is secured into the case via two brackets at the side.

Height to base of finial: 10" (26 cms.)

Height including bracket and finial: 19" (48 cms.)

The maker, Charles James Case, is recorded as working in London from 1844 to 1863.
