A superb quality mahogany Dachluhr. The elegant case with double edging to the door and profuse use of maple stringing. The pedimented rooftop with ripple moulding and the door with fine carving to the top and bottom. The sides of the lockable door are in the form of columns with Corinthian capitals and small bottom mouldings. The under curved base of the clock has fine detailing and finishes in a half round strung bottom. The whole case is veneered in well-chosen flame mahogany.

The 8 day weight driven grande sonnerie movement has curved tops to the plates and fine wheel work with nicely shaped crossings. It strikes the quarters on two gongs and has a dead beat escapement and wood rod pendulum.

The enamel dial is signed for the maker Christof Golling in Wien. It has Roman numerals and fine blued steel beetle and poker hands, and is enclosed within a cast and gilded pie crust bezel.

The quality and finish of this case is superb and it is given added elegance by the slightly longer case style and restrained decoration.

The maker Christof Golling is noted as working in Vienna until 1847. He died in 1850. He was a maker of small clocks and worked from various addresses in the city.
