An extremely rare year duration floor standing Viennese regulator. The mahogany case has the finest veneers throughout. It has a moustache top to the lift off hood which has an opening front door. It then has a small series of mouldings going down to the main trunk with lift out Laterndluhr style front door and flat columns to each side. It then proceeds via a further moulding to the panelled base with an ornate scalloped panel and the whole stands on a plinthed base with an ogee moulding at the top. The whole case is profusely strung with boxwood, with complex and multiple stringing to much of the moulding areas. The clock is quite shallow and therefore looks particularly elegant from the three quarter view.

The large porcelain dial is 10″ in diameter with Roman numerals and a seconds ring below XII. It has beetle and poker blued steel hands, and is enclosed within a fine gilded and engine turned bezel. It is signed for the maker Marenzeller in Wien.

The year duration weight driven movement has fine wheel work with five crossings, and a very large great wheel with a small barrel. This, together with the number of wheels, gives its year duration. It has Graham’s deadbeat escapement, and a steel rod pendulum with a large brass bob which runs against a beat plaque in the base. It has a large brass cased weight which is offset to the left, and runs from a substantial brass pulley. The movement is fixed in the case via a substantial brass mounting plate with big pillars to which the movement is pinned.
